The Health Foundation, NISCHR, HEFCW and Tenovus Research Capacity Building Collaboration for Nursing and Allied Health Professions in Wales.

 

In 2005, the Welsh Assembly Government through the Wales Office for Research and Development for Health and Social Care (WORD) together with The Health Foundation (THF) approved a proposal from six academic institutions in Wales to enhance Nursing, Midwifery and Allied Health Professions Research Training. The partners in this collaboration have established rcbcwales (research capacity building collaboration, Wales) in order to administer and manage this training scheme.

RCBC Early Career PhD Studentships Now Available

RCBC Wales is pleased to announce funding for a number of Early Career PhD Fellowships in Nursing/Midwifery and the Allied Health Professions to commence in Spring 2012. Applications are invited from eligible registered health professionals for up to six RCBC funded fellowships. One fellowship will be awarded to each of the 6 collaborating Universities involved in the RCBC scheme. RCBC would like to thank Dr Rachel Iredale for her hard work and commitment in her role as facilitator of the Community of Scholars since the inception of the scheme. Rachel's has played a vital role in making the Community of Scholars training days a success. Rachel will step down from the role from February 2012 and will take on the role of Director of the Cancer Support Team within Tenovus as well as remaining based at the University of Glamorgan for 1 day per week.

Dr Mark Llewellyn will now take on the role as facilitator of the Community of Scholars. Mark is a senior project manager and researcher at the Welsh Institute for Health and Social Care (WIHSC), part of the Faculty of Health, Sport and Science at the University of Glamorgan. Congratulations to Dr Edna Astbury-Ward on being awarded the 'Chancellors Prize' for her research entitled; A qualitative study of abortion care: Perceptions of patients and staff. ViPER Event for First into Research Fellows

On Monday 18th January RCBC Wales held a ViPER event at Glyndwr University, Wrexham for its First into Research fellows. Each researcher presented details of their research topics with the aid of a poster and group discussion. The ViPER format (which stands for Visual Presentation and Expert Review) was used as a basis to encourage interaction and discussion within the group.
